My daughter said today that she hates the internet because it flattens the world and sucks up her time by all the availability of Manga, distracting information, email, and videos. Then she went back and sat down in front of the computer.

And she doesn't even log on to her social networking or lj accounts--well, rarely.

Well, admitting she has a problem is the first step... Honestly, I'm feeling quite good about my balance of RL interactions to on-line interactions - and it helps that I've got a few people who it's basically like having a conversation with - only they're across the country.

She gets out a bit--but rarely initiates phone calls. She just talks with people if they call her or if she sees them. It doesn't help that it's a 3-mile walk to town.

Fortunately, she leaves the computer and reads--a newer hobby I'm glad to support.

That's good. Honestly, that's were I'm worst - my reading for pleasure has practically vanished since I've come to college. I'm either reading requirements or I'm on the computer.

For a girl who used to finish a novel in two to three days (or less) it's humbling and embarrassing to take weeks to finish a novel.
