Confused...

After the scare with Inara, and walking in on Derek and Kaylee in a compromising position, Simon heads to Kaylee's room and lays down on the bed, resting on his side. His mind is strangely blank, as he can't seem to process what he had just seen in the engine room.

Surely it was all innocent and merely two people getting in each other's way...

Soon though, the door was kicked open and Kaylee was climbing down the ladder. She pushes the button to close the door before walking over to the bed and sitting down. She reaches over to brush his hair back behind his ear. "You ok, sweetie?" she asked softly. "What happened?"

His hand comes up to cover hers and he looks up at her. He has to fight to remember why he went to her in the first place. He frowns as he tries to recall what he had been doing before the engine room...oh, right.

"Inara...she uh...she hurt herself. Broke free of the restraints and got up. Ripped herself open again. She's okay now. Passed out. Chara gave her blood."

Kaylee gives a little gasp. "Oh my Goodness!" she says softly. "Why'd she ever get up!? Of all th'silly things. Was Cap awake? Did he cause trouble?"

He rubs his eyes and rolls onto his back. "Mal was awake, he...he and Inara were talking, I think. He got her back onto the table. Found him by her side when I got there...he helped me."

Another kiss. "You don' even have t'ask." she whispers snuggling closer.

He holds her close. "Thank you."

Closer snuggle. "It's alright, sides I trust Derek wit' Serenity." she whispers closing her eyes.

He won't let that comment ruin this moment. Instead, he sighs, happy to have her here, in his arms.

"And how is Serenity?"

She giggles. "Ok, sweetie." she says brightly.

He turns them so he can hold her close more comfortably and bury his head in her shoulder. He's suddenly exhausted, the adrenaline that had him going through saving Inara finally leaving him completely.

And the added emotional turmoil from his minor bout of jealousy (which he would never admit to) isn't helping.

Kaylee smiles and holds him close as her eyes close. One of her hands moves to his hair and she starts to stroke it in soothing caresses. She also starts to hum softly to the song they danced to on the night he asked her to marry him.

He sighs with a smile. He'll always remember that song, too. Quietly, "Marry me, Kaylee. Marry me on Persephone...marry me always."
