I haven't posted a nice SHINY image series in some time - here is a parade of spring planets.
Jupiter and satellite Io in transit.
If you look closely, you'll see the Great Red Spot rotating out of view and the satellite Io (against the lower or southern equatorial band as a tiny round spot) and its shadow.

Ice Jam 2014
Like Odyssus, I finally made it home..
It took me +13 hours to make it home. It was like the legendary journey of Odysseus - I could get close, but was denied making it home. It took me nearly 6 hrs to get a mere 2.2 miles from the house, but I could go no farther as Lee Road (the long hill after the exit) was a car/truck grave year and impassable ( Read more... ) -

Super-Mooned
OK, its been awhile - hmm, 3 months since the last post. Lots of news and things happening, but the biggest change is being diagonosed as a Type II diabetic . My a1c wasn't very good - a 9.1, but the meds are working and I've made significant changes in my diet.
I have lots and LOTS of new shinies - but I'll just post this one:

MOON!
Did anyone see last night's close conjunction of the Moon and Jupiter? It was pretty spectacular, and the farther south you lived, the closer the pair. In South America, the Moon actually 'eclipsed' Jupiter.

It's a New Year!
2013
So its another New Year - the one designated as 2013. In reality, its one of 4.56 billion trips the Earth has made around the G2 V star called the Sun. Sort of puts thing in perspective, doesn't it.
