Basically, you generally wait a few weeks and let natural selection take over - i.e., they eat each other and the strongest survive. At this point (down to perhaps 60 - 100), you remove the egg sack from mamma and take over. The breeder will get most of them, I just want a few to replace the soon to be deceased adult males.

As for environments - you raise them in small plastic condiment cups like you see in a restaurant. Feed them fruit flies, pinhead crickets - etc, until they get bigger.

So you're going to be keeping a couple of the males and the rest go to a breeder? I'm not as versed on tarantulas, so... how do you tell male from female? Do you have to wait until they're a certain size, or can you tell right away (with magnification)?

For most tarantulas - they don't readily show gender until they hit the mature molt. The males get hooks/spurs under their front legs - so they can hook and prop up the female in a standing 'missionary position'. Effectively, her legs are over his shoulders.

The only problem is that the female sex bliss wears off very quick and she will often try to kill and eat the male if he lingers too long.
