Since I got such a minimal response to my last post, I'm going to only post about my Buddhist stuff to Tumblr from now on. I'm also considering starting a new blog dedicated to burlesque stuff. I haven't decided which blog site to use yet, I'll have to see which one is best for photos.

The last three weeks have been so busy. I'm ready to relax this weekend.

Last weekend was the meditation retreat in Mineral Wells, and while it was a great retreat and the weather was perfect, I had to get up at 6am every morning. I volunteered to set up breakfast Saturday morning and decided to take precepts vows on Sunday morning at 6:30am.

Arguments are such nasty things. They generally involve a lot of anger and hurt feelings, not to mention self-cherishing. The past couple of days I found myself dragged into an argument online in another forum, one that I really did not want. I woke up at right about 6:30am, which was perfect, because that is when the second day of fasting officially ended. I was a little thirsty, but didn't feel like I was dying of thirst. I've felt much worse when working outside all day in the summer, or after a hot yoga workout. Maybe doing these things helped make me accustomed to dehydration. ( Read more... )

Today I was at the temple for the second day of fasting, prayers, and prostrations. We took precepts again at 6:30am and today is a complete fast for 24 hours, no food or drink, not even water. Yesterday I had to go to work, but today I’m able to stay for the prayer sessions ( Read more... )

Today is Buddha’s Enlightenment Day, and in the Kadampa tradition we celebrate by participating in a 2-day Nyungne retreat, or as much of it as each individual can. I have to work today, so I can only do the precepts in the early morning, but I will do the full practice with the prostrations tomorrow ( Read more... )
