Seven years ago we all went through the flames; and the happiness of some of us since then is, we think, well worth the pain we endured. It is an added joy to Mina and to me that our boy's birthday is the same day as that on which Quincey Morris died. His mother holds, I know, the secret belief that some of our brave friend's spirit has passed ( Read more... )

I always liked the ending. Bravo to all of you for bringing the story alive to us all over again!

And I am madly in love with your bat icons. Why do you like the ending, out of curiosity? (Come on people, the oodles of thanks are lovely but we can still hold discussions!)

Many thanks! It is good to spread the bat love.

And I like the ending because it's all nice and warm and sappy. XP And I rather like Van Helsing's quote at the end. A good wrap-up for it all, I think.

There's something I've never quite liked about it. I think it's because Mina, whom we respect for her intelligence and daring and feistiness and pragmatism, is stuck on a pedestal and turned into an ideal of motherhood. Perfectly understandable for the Victorians, but it doesn't appeal to me personally. Lucy has been completely written out by now, and there's no trace of Lucy's friendship with Mina, it's all about the achievements of the men.

...the warm fuzziness is quite nice, though.

Woohoo! Thanks very much to the mods! I hope you do the run of Carmilla that you discussed on an earlier entry. It would make a nice touch after you post "Dracula's Guest."

Well, this have certianly been fun! ^_^

I had totally forgotten that they had a baby. On a side note, fellow Leauge fans, do they ever mention that son in the comics? I assume Jonathan got the guardianship, but...

From what I remember reading of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, (the first two books anyway) they claimed that Jonathan was put off by the fact she was unclean because of the vampire bite and they divorced. I don't think the comics had her with a kid, so that's apparently where things diverge.

Yas, I kbow they divorced, parly becuse he coudln't stand the thogyth of her "taint"... and partly becuseshe couldn't put up witht he twit, I imagine. It's just that they are owhterwise to fatihful to the book. However, I think you're right. A child would surely have been mentioned somewhere.

The theory my sister had was that, well, books lie. Especially autobiographies. This last little tying up post seems almost too good to be true, and perhaps it's Jonathan's way of trying to cover up what really happened (with the divorce, his disgust of Mina, etc). Just a theory, and certainly not backed up by Alan Moore, but it's the closest I can come to making sense of this last entry working with the League universe.
