I don't think it's ever easy unless you genuinely just don't give a damn about your pet. I had a cat named Daisy several years ago who I went as far as considering her a dear friend, she meant the world to me. I've never known a cat with such a human-like personality, who was so in tune and connected with my own personality. I think she seriously understood every emotion I expressed, from sadness to complete joy, always making eye contact when she communicated and talked to me. We had a baby rabbit that we had found die from illness. I think I would have been able to handle it, but sadly my youngest sister was the one who found him. Her heartbreak was what made it so difficult.
And we had only had that rabbit a year, god help us when it's our cat or dog or full grown rabbit, all of which are in their twilight years and we've owned for more than a decade.
Lemony Snicket died when I was in France, apparently my mum cried. It's easier when you're not there. When you're the one that has to bury the animal it's sad even if it wasn't yours.
