yeah, it hasn't been the greatest night. i was tempted to fly to alaska, buy five gallons of starbucks java chip ice cream, drive to valdosta to see steph, feign death by emotional overload...anything to escape the heartache of my family. tonight i felt once again that the issues that loom above our life are a presence, a monster that i can't even ( Read more... )

i guess what i was trying to say was that it's easy to delight in God when his blessings are tangible...like the smoothie. worshiping him with smoothie in hand was only the first step, because there's so much more to worship than that, i think- such as worshiping him when there's no smoothie and trials assail us and his grace comes in the form of situations that are meant to break and mature us...delighting in him, not just because his gifts are good (which they ARE, and so point to his goodness as well), but because he is good in himself, and because we're commanded to. if that makes any sense at all...

i've been reading a lot of john piper lately :).
