Yeah, this is pretty ridiculous; her children flailing nearby-- perhaps soon we will have a Wii Yoga to look forward to!

You're probably right! They could even make a giant ball peripheral to replace that pilates ball thingy.

Well, the Wii is being branded as an exercise tool of sorts. Some medical journal has already put out public support for the Wii as a good routine for children, and the upcoming WiiFit will just add to that.

That being said, ROFL. But it's what has the parents interested- my parents had me get a Wii for them because they can play 18 holes in their basement on a rainy day. They can have friends over and box them. They love the idea of a console that gets you to do more than just sit on the couch and push buttons.

This is why the Wii will sell more in one year than the 360 has in two.

And more than the PS3 will sell in...ever, probably.

I didn't know about the Wii being recommended by a medical journal. That's pretty cool. I'm so used to seeing nothing but fear and hatred toward gaming, so it's a nice change to hear something positive from non-gamers for once.

When Nintendo made the Wii (and kind of with the DS), they were trying to tap into the "casual gamer" market, which is far larger in the US than in Japan. As we can see with the Wii shortage, even Nintendo was surprised at the popularity of it (I believe some US guy (Reggie?) even said something to that effect). It also completely caught publishers by surprise- many that were focusing on the 360/PS3 did a 90 degree turn and started working on stuff for the Wii. Hell, EA made an entire division dedicated to the Wii.

In short, the Wii has completely changed how consumers look at the video game market, in much the same way that Nintendo's original NES did back in the 1980s. The cheap price and controls that require more than button mashing has caught on with the general public- games like Wii Sports are easy to pick up and play, and the general public loves this.

Hell, my parents decided to get one for the family after playing mine without any prodding from myself. :)

i.e. "I'm a female who's older than the gaming industry's target audience, so I've been socially conditioned to view games as something young people and/or lazy slobs do. Since the Wii's marketing campaign is so much less hostile to people like me than any other platform's, I feel comfortable playing it! It's like I can just have fun without having to be judged based on my age, gender, or lifestyle! And instead of actually giving an educated opinion on gaming, I'm just going to share my biased, inexperienced point of view of one system. Oh, plus, you don't actually have to LEARN TO DO ANYTHING! Because we all know that learning to press X to pick up an item would be too complicated for my female brain! Teehee ( ... )

Holy crap, your summary is PERFECT! XD

I agree with your hatred of game advertising...up till now it's been nothing but ads that assume ALL gamers are teenage boys, and now they're making ads for simplistic games aimed at middle-aged moms. Ordinary female gamers are still left out in the cold.
