A rescue dog is not out of the question, but we arrived at our decision to seek out a responsible breeder for many reasons and after careful consideration.
That having been said, the German Shephard mix puppy is super-cute! We'd probably have to change his name, though. :)
I'm very sorry. That's an odd policy, but they must have some reasoning behind it. I know of many people who adopted two puppies from the same litter - I wonder why having a next-door neighbour with a puppy is relevant.
Regardless, they are trying to do the best thing for the puppy, so that means they're responsible people even if we don't understand the policy.
I hope you can get it sorted out so you at least know why.
Yep. At this point, I'm not optimistic about changing their minds. We would like some clarification on their position.
I'm going to speak with our vet and get his opinion on the situation. Our relationship with our neighbours isn't going to change and if their dog's age is truly an issue. we need to know.
Talking to your vet is a great idea. Any additional insights and knowledge can only be a good thing.
I hope your relationship with your neighbours doesn't change. It sounds like a really great one. But yes, it would be good to know if their puppy means putting off you getting a puppy. It sounds like it just means, not from this breeder.
I had a black lab a long time ago. He was great. I think a female is a better choice with a small child though. Less of a dominance issue there, but the same love and protection instincts.
The lack of conversation bothers me too. Drama King is highly suspicious and I can't say as I blame him.
Cross-breed dogs may not be predisposed to certain genetic problems seen in purebred dogs. But a responsible breeder does everything possible to minimize the chances of genetic disorders. As for temperament, totally depends. Responsible breeders breed for temperament as well.
Based strictly on research and experience with friend/family dogs, my guess is *most* dogs are good, or have the potential to be so, given proper training and enough love.
WHAT!?!? What kind of fucked up bullshit is this!? This is why buying from a breeder is complete insanity. Weird rules, arbitrary stipulations. I say go down to the humane society and find yourself a puppy, no questions asked.
It smells like a bit of bullshit! That having been said, it wouldn't be fair to tar all breeders with the same brush. We have several friends who have excellent experiences with good, responsible breeders.
