So my fiance and I have spoken of having children. And don't worry, we won't spawn anytime soon. But in the next five years or so, we probably will. She reminds me that once the child/children (oh god help me if it's twins) are born, she'll have to take a maternity leave for a year or two (do mothers do this?) and I'll have to bring in all the ( Read more... )

thought of doing the same thing myself but.. well.. things changed. Currently we are both stay at home parents. Him cuz of his illness. I am looking for work and a sitter to help him here while I am gone.

Guess it'll all depend on what is more comfortable for you both. Might not really know till it's actually time.

First step - stop calling the baby "it". Heh.
You'll figure out what to do in time. It'll come naturally. It will all depend on where you are both at when the time comes.

Yes, it used to be extremely common. It only stopped when the US economically imploded on itself to where couples in most major urban areas had to work to make a living wage.

You are young yet. You will make this work. The child will be better for it the more time he or she can get with a parent at home.

My advice is this. Start putting money away now, babies are expensive. Then, cross that bridge when you come to it.
