Last week I had a bit of an epiphany about Garrison Keillor and one reason I will always like him so much. I was listening to The Writer's Almanac on KUHF in the morning on the way in to work, and I realized that I always look forward to that. I have a similar sort of emotional attachment to "A Prairie Home Companion", but for very different reasons. My grandfather was from Minnesota, and was a born raconteur and hoot-n-anny enthusiast. Most of my childhood memories of him involve hearing him spin wonderful yarns or listening to him sweetly warble some folksy song. Even though my grandfather had moved to the Southwest and become a Southwestern historian and English professor long before I was born, the first time I heard Garrison Keillor, I thought, "That's my Granddad to a T."

My grandfather died when I was 19 years old. But whenever I listen to APHC, I feel like I'm getting another chance to sit at his feet and hear a yarn or a folk song.

My relations like to listen to PHC on Sunday because that's their church.

For my church service, I prefer The Engines of our Ingenuity. It's every day, but it's only three minutes long.
