no actually! my sister had a whole bag o' names, one of my favorites being Cae. but in the end, they chose the same pronuniation with an easier spelling.... it means something in hawaiian (ocean) and something in welsh (i think oak tree?!?). anyway, when i was buying the toy, i knew i wanted to pick a kanji to go with it. there was kai for "clam".... which obviously was no good. i chose "umi" instead, which has the reading of kai as well. according to japanese friends, "umi" has a sense of mystery and deepness. pretty cool, eh?
