Good LORD! I just found out that some East Coast newspaper published an article on the online response to the Wells College issue, and when publishing quotes from various blogs, they included not just my username, but my FULL name, location, and occupation! I am BEYOND furious about this, and going back now to friendslock all of my old entries. ( Read more... )

Definitely make a complaint to the newspaper. They wouldn't publish full name, location and occupation of someone they were interviewing, so they shouldn't do it for someone from on-line (at least, not without emailing you to check first).

Do you have a Press Complaints Commission in the US (or is it under the control of the FCC?) If not, a sternly worded letter to the editor and the paper's publishers is your first recourse. Very out of order and most uncool.

I just found you via someone else on my flist, and was just wondering if you'd heard of HideJournal, a Java program for making all public posts friendsonly. I'm not sure if you already know about it, but I was reading through the comments on this post, and you mentioned having three years of posts to friendslock, so I thought I'd mention it.

...No, I haven't heard of it. Wish I had before I locked all those posts by hand! *weak laugh* Thanks.
