In the Trimurti, Vishnu is responsible for the maintenance or 'preservation' of the universe. [Which I find interesting since the ritual mentions breaking the boundaries of Baldou (one of Vishnu's incarnations) to bring the demon back from the Netherworld. Essentially screwing with Vishnu's maintenance of the balance of the universe.]
And since Rama is another of Vishnu's avatars and I've actually read the Ramayana (though it was years ago), I know that he was great enemies

Here's a touch more about Lord Baldeva or Balabhadra as he's apparently sometimes called. It seems he's got 1000 names actually.
Lord Jagannath presides the Jagannath temple in fact he is none other than Sri Krishna accompanied by His Divine Brother Sri Baladeva & Divine Sister Srimathi Subhadra Devi.
In Hinduism, Balarama (phonetically Balarāma), also known as Baladeva, Balabhadra and Halayudha, is the elder brother of the divine being, Krishna.
That last link is to a wiki entry with a lot of information. Hope this helps.

You're welcome. ^^
Also, this stuff might help you with some plot ideas playing into the mythos.
It is also within the Puranas that the information regarding Vishnu's avatars is given. Nine of these avatars, or 'incarnations' are described as having occurred in the past, with one still to happen at the end of Kali Yuga. The Bhagavad Gita mentions their purpose being to rejuvenate Dharma and vanquish negative forces.
Balarama is included as the ninth Dasavatara (avatars of Vishnu) in some versions of the list which contain no reference to Buddha.
