I feel like I won something

There's a piece of HP trivia going around. I'm glad. Of course, it's not the "hey, we can have a successful long-term relationship" breakthrough I'm still waiting for because of what the Fried Green Tomatoes movie did to the characters, but heck, this is a lot better than I'd hoped for ( Read more... )

I know. It reminds me of some Trekwank from last year, really.

Almost 26?

What Trekwank? The first thing I thought of was the Sulu thing, but that was an actor being gay. Has Takei ever said anything about Sulu's sexuality? Somehow, Sulu being sort of friendly with Rand and Uhura plus the actor's queerness makes him scan very lesbian to me. Hee hee!

I'll be 26 tomorrow.

DS9, when (IIRC) either Ron Moore or Robert Wolfe finally came out and admitted that they had written Garak as gay/bi.

Which is roughly analogous to admitting you wrote Trelane as gay, but still.

You know, I feel like an awful fan girl about this, because while a pragmatic part of me is gratified and nodding "Sesame Street next and we're done with this dark ages nonsense," by far the biggest part of me is going "OH NO HE ISN'T BECAUSE R.H. HAS BEEN IN LOVE WITH ME EVER SINCE I SAW HIM ON STAGE IN CAMELOT AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM EVEN THOUGH HE a) NEVER KNEW IT and is b) DEAD" because I have this itty bitty humongous problem about separating actors from characters and I never got into the books really, only the movie SFX.

I kind of ignored Dumbledore in the 3rd & 4th movies (and have yet to see the last) as I was so heartbroken over R.H. Perhaps I should watch one and concentrate more on Sir Ian?? I would like to win my fangirl credentials back somehow....

Why couldn't she pick someone else? Everyone else, for that matter? *grumblez and kisses R.H's memory*

I understand what you mean about feeling conflicted between your superego's political warm-fuzzies and your id's gut reaction, because I felt REALLY bad about that fact that after reading HBP all I was upset about was Lupin's drive-by heterosexuality, not Dumbledore's death. I knew that made me lame, somehow :P but sometimes the human brain is hard to control.

Don't really empathize there, really, but I understand intellectually.

Michael Gambon. If Sir Ian McKellan had been Dumbledore, EVER, you'd actually see me fangirling over DD, which I never really do. I worship Sir Ian. DD for me is just a cool character. For me, this is far more a media-political thing than a fandom thing, because one of my major peeves is the lack of a well-rounded queer experience in a literature that exists in a world where such a thing is possible. The literature is far behind reality.

Actually, we're about to ( ... )

Actually, the movies were already "edited" in order to allow for this, although they probably won't show it outright. Supposedly, there was a scene HBP in which Dumbley-dore was reminiscing on past stuff, with a girl in it, and JKR scrawled "Dumbledore is gay" all over the draft script.

I think she got to the point where she had enough money that she felt safe making the gamble. That actually makes me feel good about having purchased 5 and 7 from the bookstores because it means I helped this happen, in some small amount. Sometimes one has to feel protected before doing what one really wants, and I'm ok with that.
