Not that anyone would particularly care, but I thought I'd mention that I saw a grackle today. Their common range supposedly extends into the southernmost parts of Michigan, but I never saw one while I lived there. They're very pretty. (Yes, there will be random posts like these until I get used to the neat wildlife here, lol.)

Yep, all the websites I looked at said that they sounded like a "rusty gate". The one I saw didn't make any noise while in my presence, but I'm pretty sure he was tryin to convince a female to have some alone time because his lil tail was all flared out. It was very pretty. :)

Yep, they used to drop by the balcony all the time, much to the annoyance of the mourning doves nesting in the tree (and the utter fascination of Moe). We haven't seen as many since we took the bird feeder down (of course), but they still drop in occasionally.
