I really like this. I'm a photoshop geek, as well (or at least I'm guessing that is what you used for those images). Do you have any of your work online? I want to see. :)
I don't think any art schools/teachers in their right mind would argue you HAVE to belong to a school of art. Though only through mastery of technique and knowledge of tradition can you really be free from those things, which is what institutions help you achieve by studying what great past innovators have done. It's a painful process though, as you constantly feel put down and held back.
That's all irrelevant though. All you need is natural creativity and inspiration. It seems you have both.
