Jared paced the kitchen, which wasn’t really helping any, just making him a little lightheaded from all the turning he had to do. Really, he thought, they needed a bigger kitchen, with his leg span, it only took three steps before he was turning around and repeating the process.
Worrying on his thumb, he thought of all the places Mike could have been. They had been searching for most of the week, with no results to show for it. But now, after waking up to an empty apartment, and calling Mike every five minutes to never get an answer from him, Jared was beginning to worry. First, Mike always answered when Jared called. Second, Jared needed Mike and his car to help look for the blond guy. And Finally, Jared has drank too much coffee, is bouncing off the wall, and he has a feeling that something is going to happen.
Jared huffs, walks to the fridge, and pulls out a bottle of water. He walks to the bar, and forces himself to sit down and not move until he has at least heard from Mike.
Mike stares at the track and the helmeted bikers. He had got a call earlier from a friend he had went to high school with, and now he was just looking for what he came down for. As the bikers make the last turn, Mike finds his way to the sidelines.
The bikers begin taking off their helmets and Mike stares at the one on a black dirt bike. He’s blond, and as the pink haired girl at the coffee shop told him, he’s hot as hell. Mike begins walking over towards him.
“Excuse me.” He ventures when he’s only a few feet away from the man.
The blond man turns and looks at him, before once more turning away and pushing his bike towards the parking lot.
“I really need to talk to you.” Mike says, “It’s about a friend of mine, he has these dreams…” Mike watches as the man tenses up and turns.
Jared jumps from his seat as he hears the key in the lock, and the tumblers clicking. As the door swings open, he is already strolling across the room, “Goddamn it Mike! I’ve been callin…” Jared stops as he sees that a new guy is standing behind Mike. “It’s you.” He says, slowing his stride to the door.
“You two know each other?” Mike asks confused, looking between the two men.
“Yeah,” Jared tentatively answers.
“We met at the library.” The blond man says in a daze.
“Oookay” Mike says backing away, “I’m just going to go get some dinner. Jay, call me if you need me.”
Jared doesn’t watch Mike leaving; he just slowly walks towards the couch and sinks down. He takes deep breaths, trying not to hyperventilate, and doesn’t even notice as the strange man walks closer and sits down beside him on the couch.
“Are you alright?” he asks, concern laced through his speech.
“Fine,” Jared mumbles, “I just can’t believe I was that close to you and didn’t realize it. I’ve been having these dreams…” he whispers, sure the man is going to think he’s crazy.
“Yeah, Mike told me.” Jensen whispers back, leaning towards the younger man. “He said you think I’m in danger.”
“Yeah…” Jared breathes out before laughing, “Man, I don’t even know your name.”
“It’s Jensen.”
“Jensen.” Jared repeats with a smile, “I like that name.” Jared pauses before blushing, “umm, m’names Jared.” He says quickly, embarrassed that it took him so long to give his name.
Jensen just smiles at the red tint covering the man’s cheeks, “You’re kinda cute when you blush.” Jensen’s grin gets wider as the red on Jared’s face grows darker. “So, about the dreams.” Jensen watches as Jared tries to talk, but soon realizes that the boy is struggling to breathe.
When Jensen asks about the dreams, it brings everything back to reality, and Jared finds himself trying to breathe. He can’t take more than a small breath before he’s choking. What if he does think I’m crazy? Jared asks himself, which quickly makes things worse, and Jared finds he can’t even take that small breath anymore.
“Come on Jared, breathe man.” Jensen says, now holding the boy, “It’s okay. Really it is. Mike already told me about the dreams. I just wanted to hear them from you.” Jensen keeps repeating the same words over and over until Jared either passes out from not breathing or falls asleep. Either way, now Jensen is left cradling the younger man, but he finds that he really doesn’t have a problem with it.
Jensen carefully maneuvers him and Jared until Jared is sprawled between his legs, back pressed to Jensen’s chest, head resting on his shoulder, and Jensen holds him, leans his head back on the arm of the couch, arms wrapped around Jared, living in the moment, and praying he can keep the boy safe.
Mike walks in with two pizza boxes and a case of beer, but freezes when he sees the view. Jensen is lying on the couch, his head turned to the back of the couch, and Jared is laying on top of him, sleeping for the first time since the dream riddles began.
Mike quietly places the boxes on the bar top and the beer in the floor before walking over and silently sits down in the chair opposite the couch. Staring at the two men still sleeping, Mike quickly takes off his shoes before placing his feet on the coffee table. Taking each shoe, he hurls them across the room, smacking the wall with intensity, and holds back a laugh as Jared jerks awake.
“Have a nice nap?” he asks his friend.
It takes about a minute, before Jared is jolting forward and off the sleeping man he was using as a bed. “Oh god.” He whispers looking down at Jensen and frowning as he sees the man’s eyes blink open.
“You alright now?” Jensen asks him before sitting up and stretching. Jared’s eyes track the hem of Jensen’s shirt and can feel heat building in his body as it rides up and shows off the smooth, slightly tanned skin of Jensen’s side and stomach. It’s not until Jensen laughs, that he realizes he was asked a question. When he raises his head, his eyes lock with Jensen’s and he knows he’s been caught staring. Once more Jared can feel the blush shadowing his cheeks. “We’ve already slept together, no need to blush.” Jensen says laughing.
Jensen quickly stops laughing as Jared stands up and leaves the room. He watches the taller man head down a hallway and wonders if maybe he’s pushed the boy too much when he hears a door shut. He hasn’t known Jared save for a few hours, most spent sleeping, and even though it feels like he’s known him longer, he realizes that he needs to keep himself in line, or risk scaring Jared.
Jensen and Mike sit in the living room for twenty minutes before either attempt to talk. “Listen man.” Mike tells him, “Don’t take it personally. Jared just takes it wrong when he thinks someone is laughing at him. He’d have to like you a little to feel comfortable sleeping in the same room with you let alone on top of you.”
“Yeah,” Jensen replies with a wince, “He didn’t actually choose to sleep on top of me.” Jensen looks up to see anger on Mike’s face and quickly continues, “He might have sort of passed out from not being able to breathe.” Before Mike could ask questions Jensen carried on, “I asked him about the dreams, and he just panicked.”
“Well.” Mike began not knowing exactly what to say, “How about helping me? Can you grab the ice mugs from the freezer?”
Jensen stared at the man, wondering why he wasn’t asking questions, but eventually shrugged, stood up, and walked over into the kitchen where Mike was already picking up some paper plates to take back to the living room with the pizza. Jensen watched as Mike tried to disappear without Jensen noticing, and soon heard a soft knock on a door in the hallway and Mike trying to cajole Jared from wherever he was.
Jensen just smiled to himself, walked to the couch, grabbed a slice of pizza, and waited for Mike to return. “Not working?” Jensen asked when a very defeated Mike walked back.
“He’s being a whiny bitch.” Mike huffed sinking down into the chair.
“Want me to try?”
“Be my guest. It’s the room with the only closed door.”
As Jensen stood, he winked at Mike, and took off down the hall. Standing before the door, he took out his wallet and pulled out a credit card, before gently knocking on the door. “Jared?” he called out. When he didn’t get an answer he continued, “You need to unlock the door or I’ll unlock it.” He grinned when he heard a huff filter through the door.
“Good luck with that.”
Jensen took the card, slotted it in thin crack, took hold of the door knob, and in a few seconds was swinging the door open.
