When Jared first wakes up, his first thoughts are of what happened the night before. He wonders if Mike really does have something to hide, and if he does, what it could be. Being able to tell if someone has lied is still kinda freaking him out. It’s one thing to dream the future and not remember it. If he wanted he could deny that part of him, but being able to see things when he’s awake and forced to remember it, is a whole different ball game.
Still thinking about it, Jared makes his way towards the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee. As he goes to walk in, he stops. Sitting on the couch directly in front of the bar is Jensen. “I didn’t think you’d still be here.” He admits, staring at the man.
“Just because you get pissed at me doesn’t mean I’m going to abandon you. At least with me here, I know you’re safe.”
“Please.” Jared huffs, “If the big bad Russians come I can just call the police.”
Jensen sighs, and something that resembles sadness over takes his features, “Jared,” he says, pausing, “The people that are after you are more like monsters. They won’t stop until they get what they want, or are sent back to the place they belong.”
“Fine!” Jared seethes, “I’ll get a gun. You don’t need to hang around. This didn’t start until you came here.”
“It started long before I came here, long before you were a thought in the backseat of a car.” He replies staring directly at Jared, “And a gun won’t help.”
“What are they, bullet-proof?” Jared asks with a mocking laugh.
“Pretty much,” Jensen quickly says, grief coating his voice, cutting Jared’s laugh off.
“Jensen.” Mike says with more command in his voice than Jared thought was possible. His voice sent a shiver down Jared’s spine, making tiny echoes throughout his whole body that seemed to vibrate around his bones. When the rapture of the voice finally wears off, he turns around to look for Mike. In no time at all his eyes settle on his friend standing in the doorway, arms crossed over his chest, and a look that Jared can’t decipher. What Jared didn’t see was his friend shaking his head and mouthing “no” to Jensen. Maybe if Jared would have seen that, he could have asked questions and figured out what was going on. As it was, he just huffed and made his way to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee.
“Are you fucking crazy?” Jensen whispers challengingly to the bald man. “If he realizes what you just did, he’ll know.”
“Don’t worry about it. He didn’t notice anything. He’ll just think it was odd, but he’s known me for a couple years, he’s not going to think anything of it.” Mike answers back with a wave of his hand.
“How can you be so sure?” Jensen asks, trying to cover all angles.
“Mike.” Jared says coming in and glaring at both of them, not knowing he just stopped a growing argument. “I’m going to run to the bakery and pick up breakfast.”
“Like hell you are.” Jensen and Mike say in unison. Only glancing at each other for a second before facing Jared and not taking their eyes off of him.
“Excuse me?” Jared questions while looking at both men like they just escaped from a high security mental institution after being knocked over the head with a crowbar a few hundred times. “Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m an adult and can pretty much choose to do what I want to.” Jared rambles as he makes his way to the front door.
“No.” Jensen says grabbing his arm and pulling him back. He feels Jared flinch and quickly drops his hand. “Please, Jared. Just stay here. It’s not safe out there. I found you, they can just as easily, if not more effortlessly, find you.”
“So you want me to just sit around?” Jared questions with an arch of his brow.
“Yes, well no.” Jensen quickly amends. “If you stay here, Mike and I can take care of you.”
“Mike has no training, Jensen” Jared fumes. “You don’t even know us.”
“Dammit Jared!” Jensen growls, “Just please trust me. If you go out, you can get hurt. I don’t want to see any thing happen to you.” He finishes; his voice dropping at the end of his rant.
Jared quickly deflated at the tone of Jensen’s voice. He didn’t want to stay in the apartment, but for a reason he couldn’t understand, he didn’t want to disappoint the shorter man either. “Alright.” He says sadly, “I’ll stay.”
“Good.” Jensen replies. “Although, if you really want something, well whatever you want, I can go get it for you.”
“So you would leave me alone in the apartment, where the evil, evil Russians can get me?” Jared lightly teases, his bad mood evaporating as Jensen stands in front of him looking embarrassed.
“I don’t want to, but you shouldn’t be holed up in your home, wishing you had baked goods.” Jensen remarks as he tries to recover his composer.
“Listen, guys.” Mike butts in as he steps closer to them. “I’ll go.” Mike holds up his hand to cut both Jensen and Jared off. “Seriously, I know what Jared likes, and like Jared said, I’m not trained.”
“Are you sure?” Jensen asks; he knows Mike wouldn’t be in danger, but it still feels like he could be.
“Nothing is gonna happen.” He replies as he shoves his shoes on and heads to the door. “Except maybe coming back and finding the two of you sleeping together again.” He stated with a smile thrown over his shoulder, and a laugh at the shocked look on Jared’s face; Mike leaves quickly, his laughter still being heard through the closed door.
“Listen Jared,” Jensen suddenly says after they both stared at the front door, trying to think of something to say to the other. “I know you don’t want to stay inside, but it really is safer. Strangely, I like you, and I just don’t want to see something happen to you.”
“You.. you like me?” Jared stuttered, finally looking at Jensen.
“You think I’d sleep with just anyone?” Jensen replies, and watches as Jared’s cheeks begin to flush.
“I.. I kinda like you too.” Jared said in a small voice, his eyes trained on the carpet between his feet.
“Jay.” Jensen softly says. He takes a step forward, crowding closer to the younger man. He waits until Jared looks up at him, and then slowly raises his right hand to place behind Jared’s head, pulling him closer. With soft lips, and caressing tongue, Jensen meets Jared, connecting their mouths together, and allowing a sigh to slip through. “You need to stay safe.” Jensen breathes over Jared’s lips, when he pulls away seconds later, “I just found you, I can’t lose you.”
