I love the "brief intersection of lives" stories! Nice work, and very cool use of the prompt. I look forward to reading more!

One thing about mammograms: raising the age for them...that whole thing they're talking about isn't true. The recommended age, by doctors, has been 50 for years. My mom's doctor told her that doing mammograms before menopause doesn't really make much sense, since the breast tissue is so dense it normally comes back inconclusive. After menopause, the tissue dissolves some and that's why mammograms are more effective. Self exams are the best way to catch breast cancer if you're under 40-50.

Just something I thought was worth saying. There's so much dishonesty out there right now.

Good luck this week!

For some reason, I had mislabeled it in the poll.

This really happened to me a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the info, all I knew was what Sandy told me, that she never would have found her lump without the mammogram since it was internal, didn't show at all externally.

Thanks SO much for commenting. So far, you are the first and only person to ever read my little story about the day I finally got my hair cut. I'm glad someone knows about it now, Sandy has been on my mind...

I don't know Sandy, but I'm praying for her. I have a close friend who has had surgery to remove a cancerous lump in her breast, and she will be having her last chemo treatment this week. It's very hard on her physically and emotionally, but she got through it with the support and love of her friends and family. I hope with all my heart that Sandy does, too!

You wrote this so well, Maria, and with so much compassion!
*hugs*

I am glad your friend is doing better.

I really don't know Sandy either but appreciate you praying for her. I wonder how her surgery went but feel it might be odd for me to call and check? I still might, I can't decide.

It was an usual day. I never expected to care so personally about someone I spent less than an hour with.

::hugs:: Marion. I've been thinking of you today.

Wow, what a sad story. Very nice work. I hope her surgery goes okay and that she makes it.

Really powerful story. I like that we never really learn why the narrator feels like she needs a dramatic change, and the corresponding narrative shift from worrying about her own change to worrying about someone else's troubles.

My best to Sandy.

This is fantastic and heart wrenching. You had me in sniffles at the end.

Good luck this week.
