LJ Idol Week One: "Prism Life"

Feb 01, 2022 20:27

As a child, solutions seem very simple. Always taller and (shall I say) curvier than my peers, there was probably no nine year old girl that looked less like a ballerina than me. But that, of course, was my ambition: to dance, to glide like the most delicate butterfly ( Read more... )

I was a chubby little girl who wanted to be a gymnast or figure skater, I can relate to your childhood dream.

I'm sorry you haven't felt love from your parents, but I'm happy that you are able to break the cycle with your own kids.

It's weird, as a parent, to come to the other side of that - as a kid, it was always about trying to make them (parents) happy, and as an adult, I don't know, it still feels like I'm trying to make them (the kids) happy. I wonder if it was the same for mine.

We have had a rough few years, but I am trying to follow your approach of radical acceptance and love. God knows the world is difficult enough, home should at least be a safe space to land.

We all need a place where we know people love us and support us. I hope my home is like that for my kids. I think/hope LJ Idol is like that for some of us?

And yes, endless cycle of trying to make people happy (kids/parents). With 3 kids, I finally had to accept it can be rare for all 3 to be happy at the same time.

Hugs to you, my friend. You are a GREAT mom!!

I love reading stories about how parents are wanting to be different from their parents. There are probably going to be bumps along the way, but I think your hope to be a better parent for your kids is going to be a positive thing for your kids.

I sure hope so. They are 20, 18 and 15 so I guess time will tell.

Believe me, there have been wow, so many bumps. I am trying.

Thanks so much for your encouragement!!

Your post resonates with me in a big way. I've been chasing that rainbow all my life too. I'm glad you've come to a place where you can let the sunshine in and keep the dark clouds at bay... and that you are breaking that cycle with your kids.

Did you ever catch the rainbow? I hope you are feeling more content.

Clouds come and go but I try to stay on an overall..good days balance the bad.

Thanks for your encouragement!

Nope, my chance at catching the rainbow passed me by long ago. You read that entry on my journal.

I love love love the reminiscence about the jewelry box. So succinctly and emotionally written and such a perfect use of the prompt. Nicely done.

This entire piece just resonates with seeing the bright side, the silver lining, enjoying the journey, and following the rainbows that decorate your skies! Brava!
