Honestly, I was letting it die quietly....

::laughs evilly::

I'm glad you're still alive. Indeed, more than alive: that news about the book is totally cool. Congrats!

Oh, that is SO FRICKIN' COOL! I love her books! (And the show, but considerably less than the books.)

How do you know who I was talking about? I thought I made it clear I'm far too modest to name names.

Got a chance to pry the book out of my wife and daughter's hands and took a look. More of my bad poetry got in there than had been in the draft of that chapter she'd shown me. Good thing it wasn't supposed to be good because it kinda sux.

Haven't gotten very far--sad to say, I've only read one of her books, the one about the Lost Tomb of Jesus, and that was because we were talking about that controversy at the SDMB, plus she wanted me to point out to one of the fellows involved how close his scenario was to the one in her book. OF COURSE IT WAS! He's a friend of hers, gave her a tour of Israel, and teaches at the same bleeping school! At least with this new book I have an out next time she asks me to plug her books or fight her proxy battles because I'm too easily linked to her.

Apparently, I'm a character. drop_mike September 1 2007, 04:00:29 UTC
First, like I said, I've only read one of her books. Like I may have also said, she's a surprisingly good writer. Sure, I get annoyed by the gotchas at the end of each chapter; I'm a stuffy old fart who believes the start of a new chapter is a change of scene, but most people are used to slight cliffhangers before a commercial so it's probably comfortable for them, and she's done it for ten very successful books so I can't complain. However, there is a long way between can't and don't, but I limit it to complaints about the show, like "You couldn't dissolve a body in a single weekend, especially using Drano." "My tech people said you could." "Have they TRIED it? Have they even tried dissolving a really good clog?" And since you can tell when Dickens ended an installment of his serialized novels, at least she's in good company ( ... )
