They keep me awake at night. Moving from crisis to crisis, caring about the characters. I can't sleep. Hell's bells, I can read the most guesome nonfiction and sleep like a baby. The other day I was replaying the Zapruder film while I ate my lunch. But well-written fiction kills me, so I don't read much fiction anymore and what I do read is usually William Gibson, and I'm several books behind there, too. Not that I'm saying his stuff is good, just that I can enjoy it without it keeping me awake.
I was going to be different with this one, but there were enough parallels between my youth and that of the main character in the first chapter that I couldn't sleep because I was totally bummed--nostalgia used to be a mental illness, y'know.
