I've overcome my bout of introspection and have decided everything in moderation, including moderation. Especially including moderation... Ho ho. I think I'm suffering from a pre-mid-life crisis ( Read more... )

I am hypoglyemic too... Not diabetic.. but certainly i know all about blood sugar levels. I actually passed out in Novemeber (before being diagnosed) " ohh I'm shaking, oh the light, ohh my stomach hurts, I feel dizzy.. " then I hit the pavement. It was an interesting experience. The doctors thought and found out that coupled with that I have a photosensitivity issue (called mild epilepsy or something of that sort). I passed out in a parking lot at Carleton University-- the kind dark parking lot that is surrounded by street lights. So who the hell knows what happened-- but I hit the pavement..

It sucks eh?

You're right, it does suck. I'm sorry to hear you've passed out like that. The times I passed out illicit substances were involved (I'm not that stupid now thankfully) and I managed to land without injury whenever I toppled over. I usually made it to a patch of grass or a carpet fortunately, where I'd lay semi-conscious until the paramedics arrived. Do you have a machine to test your blood sugar? Most diabetics have them, it'd make sense for people with hypoglycemia to have them (it involves pricking your finger, they probably did that already to diagnose the hypoglycemia). Anyway it sucks making yourself bleed constantly but at least you know if your sugar is 2 of 10mmol, or in my case at times, 22mmol. I think you're supposed to eat protein with your meals, it stabilizes your sugars more than just carbohydrates. There's my medicinal advice for the day...

The second time I left the hospital in Toronto I thanked them for their 'hospitality'. Nobody laughed. I even did the nod, wink and finger point. Then as I stumbled home, wearing the clothes I'd passed out in the previous night, I was accosted by a transexual prostitute. I passed on that offer needless to say, it was made all the more debauched by the fact that it was about 7am and I was wearing the clothes I'd been ill in and passed out in. I have no future plans to pass out.
