Are any of you lot out there with 3 as a mobile provider? Any positive or negative comments if you are would be appreciated, as they seem to do the deal I want.

Not yet, but their Irish arm would appear to do the perfect deal for me, so I may soon be. Their roaming deal seems to be the best on the planet, as long as you go to countries they operate in.

It took me awhile to get used to them after having O2 for years. No problems so far (since last August) and I was able to text J when he was in the US.

Basically OK if you get a cheap deal. Their US rates are eyewateringly expensive, customer support are based on Mars and the phone I have (K610i) doesn't do punter-loadable Java (so that's no LJ2ME).

Lord knows how bad the coverage can get.

Only been with them for a couple of months but so far, so good. It's cheap and does what I want, but I haven't been abroad with it yet to test that out. The only negative point I have is battery life - if you're in an area where 3G coverage is sparse, then your battery life drops noticeably - and you can't turn the 3G bit off (because then they rely on O2 to provide the service and that costs them). Then again, I never turn my phone off, so it does pretty well considering it's on constantly. And the free video minutes are cool! I don't want to be too enthusiastic though - as I said, I've not been with them long.

Oh, yeah, I should say that if the coverage isn't 3G then they just use O2's, so I've not had any coverage problems so far at all.

Won't go with 3 as a matter of principle.
The parent company tried to avoid paying us consultancy fees by nefarious means of international corporate wanglings. Took us 3 years to get them to pay the last 30K they owed us.
