This afternoon I am minding my own business in my office. My work study student is diligently checking data for me at the other computer. All of a sudden, I see two large police officers coming down the hall. No biggie...Federal Protective Service comes through all the time as part of our security. But this time, they stop at my office.

I was politely reminded some time ago that I hadn't posted to LJ in a really long time. Unfortunately, at that point, I wasn't able to schedule time to pee, much less post to LJ. The rant is behind the cut for anybody that cares to read it.

Will somebody please explain to me why this seems to be getting harder rather than easier every year? Today is the anniversary of my sister's passing...5 years ago. I was doing okay, then I stopped at Starbucks for a warm caffeine fix after being out in the cold since 6:30 this morning. I just found out last night that one of my sister's is being shipped to Iraq early next year. She is a single mom and she will be stationed there for at least a year. Ugh! -

As a sort of birthday present to myself, I flew to Minnesota this weekend to see my best friend since high school. I had a great weekend just goofing off and shopping. It was so great to see her again...she's like a sister to me which means a lot since my birth sister passed away several years ago. -

The African Union is due to pull out of Sudan at the end of this month. Khartoum has all but told the AU they are not welcome once their directive runs out. They have renewed their attacks on villages in Darfur, and bombings and killings have increased dramatically over the past couple weeks. I've actually had a little time at home the past couple days. Not because I wanted to, but because the transmission on my car is totally shot. It will most likely cost more to fix than it's worth. Which means making a foray into the land of car salesmen...Ack! Totally not looking forward to that! -
Suck...
I should have known this weekend was going to suck when I had to work until 7 last night on my day off. We had to put Susie to sleep today. We'd had her for 17 years. She took a turn for the worse the last couple of days, so I know it was time, but it hadn't even been on my radar screen ( Read more... )
