ds_writers has always been a great place to find betas, but I was thinking it would be cool if there were a single list we could link to from other communities so as to help new DS fen get connected. So...if you can offer to beta for people, please comment to this entry! :D

I've just gotten into (poly-fannish) beta recently, and I'm dying to do some DS stuff!

a) Come talk to me at this journal post for starters.

b) Strengths: grammar, spelling, flow of narrative, characterization. I give a good balance of positive/negative feedback. Weaknesses: Americanisms. I live in New Zealand, we talk funny. I'm familiar with American English from loads of fic (and canon for that matter) but I may miss stuff.

c) I won't do non-con. Power games and BDSM are fine, but non-con is not. Also no incest, or anything involving cruelty to animals.

I'm pretty handy with characterisation and grammar, as well as the general flow of sentences. I'll pick up inconsistencies at the drop of a hat. :)

I won't do 'cestfic or anything involving underage sex. Absolutely anything else is fine.

b) am thorough, heavy on comments, good on story, voice, plot, etc. Decent grammar; less confident of punctuation, but I'm learning (dammit!). Love gen, het, slash & femslash. Will Ameripick (you can't stop me!). I can be too thorough, so please let me know how nitpicky to be ahead of time! *g*

c) please no non-con, abusive bdsm, Ds power games, whumpfic, or hatesex within the pairing. (If it's plot related and happens to other people, ask first.) Also, I get twitchy at any needless demonization of Stella, Frannie, or Meg, etc. If it's a third party plot point (i.e. they're saving a victim from something horrible), it'll probably be fine, but please ask first. (Sorry, my squicks have weird boundaries.) Also, please no Turnbull slashfic unless it's absolute crackfic (sorry, I just have a block there).

b) I'm very thorough, encouraging, and I'm good with plot, voice, story, pacing, characterization, etc. I'm not that great with the mechanics of writing and I do love my hyphens so I fail a bit at puncutation. I'm fine with most pairings/genres/kinks, and I'm probably a good resource for post-CotW stories and Canadian nitpicking since I grew up in northern Canada.

c) I don't do Turnbull fic. Sorry.
