LJ Idol, Week 31: "The Argument Clinic"

Jun 25, 2012 09:49

I won't go so far as to say that I deliberately set out, all the time, to do the opposite of what I am supposed to be doing -- that sort of thing would be childish and stupid -- but I can't deny that it's a lot of fun to do the unexpected, to act in ways contrary to those that others may consider normal, and especially to find "strange" or " ( Read more... )

.....oh my GOD, I am the most dense idiot in the world.
Hahahaha! I laugh because this was pretty much me in college, too. Most men are usually much less subtle than women in situations like this, but not the shy ones. Sadly, this caused some hurt feelings later when I didn't realize that two of my friends and I had entirely different opinions about what our relationship potential was.

I think the instructor was justified in the second F, though I also completely understand the urge to recite Monty Python skits in any available circumstance. Just two weeks ago, I had all the voices running in my head from the "Penguin on top of the television" skit. :D

In my house there's always a "penguin on top of the telly" -- nowadays, several of them lined up across the top.

Burma!

Hahaha! Say, I have penguins. And a television set. Though the kids would never understand.

I think they're old enough for me to start breaking out the complete Monty Pyton DVD set. :D

I do WISH I could put a penguin on top of me telly. I even have a stuffed emperor penguin who sits on top of an old computer monitor in my office. But you can't put a penguin on top of a flatscreen television, and he would just fall off the top of my 55" plasma TV. :) It's sad, really.

I'm the kind of person to do "Monty Python" as well. In fact, in my college "Introduction to Mass Media" class I wrote on "Holy Grail" as a classic example of a cult film, even though I suspected he had never seen it -- he loved my work anyway.

If I were to do a Monty Python monologue, I would go with Eric Idle's rant in the sketch where he books a holiday (complete with a can of Watley's Red Barrel)

Needless to say, I enjoyed this.

Oo, that would have been a good choice for a monologue too. I assume you got an A in the essay, especially since the instructor loved your work?

Glad you enjoyed the piece, and thanks tons for dropping in. Plus the other comments. :)

Phil

I didn't feel up to arguing it with him (heh) since I kind of asked for the flunking grade on the second piece by not following instructions. The first sketch got me an A, and I wound up with an A for the course despite the flunking grade, so I really can't complain. He was a nice guy, I just think he dealt with too many cleverdick students who thought they were more talented or smarter than he was each quarter. Can't blame him for reacting that way, really.

And hey, thanks for chiming in, particularly with all the other stuff you've got going on lately.

cheers,
Phil

*grin* I did the argument clinic all by myself for a high school drama monologue! ~high five of Monty Python drama goofiness~

I'm glad you ended up passing the class (yay happy ending) and having fun with all the Python-related goodness. :)

High five indeed! Both of us got away with it. Heh. Did it go over as well with your high school audience? I was one of only a few people who knew about Python in my high school.

I definitely did enjoy the class overall.

Thanks for coming by!

What a fun story! I loved teaching college theatre, and I wish I'd had more students get so excited and creative about the assignments :)

She teaches theatre too. Really, is there anything you HAVEN'T done? Lion taming, for example? Although looking at the profile pic with the whip, I have to wonder about that too. :)

You did get the idea, regardless -- I didn't do this because I was being annoying, but because I was trying to be creative and have fun with it. The A in the class overall did speak for itself, anyway.

Glad you liked the piece! Thanks for coming by, as always.

cheers,
Phil
