LJ Idol, Week 31: "The Argument Clinic"

Jun 25, 2012 09:49

I won't go so far as to say that I deliberately set out, all the time, to do the opposite of what I am supposed to be doing -- that sort of thing would be childish and stupid -- but I can't deny that it's a lot of fun to do the unexpected, to act in ways contrary to those that others may consider normal, and especially to find "strange" or " ( Read more... )

Love what you do and Monty Python is in my blood, the humour so mad its just perfect. I can quote chunks of it. ....the phrases pop into my brain. 'Your mother was a hamster?.... and smelled of elderberries? well something like that.

You did well. But sad you didn't read the signs from the girl with the wine. Wonder where that might have gone?

I used to wonder a lot too, when I was still in college. I actually haven't thought about her in years, until writing this piece. It does make you curious, though, but I tend to go by John Greenleaf Whittier's words, "For all sad words of tongue or pen / The saddest are these: 'It might have been!' " No sense in dwelling on what might have been. :)

And it's "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!" It's the French Taunter in the "Holy Grail" movie. :)

Thanks as always for chiming in!

cheers,
Phil

I am so glad you got away with it! That was so much fun to read :D

Heh, I did a BSc. and pretty much ALL my electives were Arts subjects. And when I exhausted my non-science quota, I actually elected to take two Arts subjects as non-credit. The moral of my story is dammit, I should have done arts to begin with! (Although in that case I might not have been able to take some of my awesome science subjects as they had prerequisites. So I guess it all worked out.)

You definitely get where I'm coming from, then. I really should have done a BA considering I did fuck-all with my degree anyway. I'm just more of a liberal arts person. :)

Glad you liked the piece, and thanks for dropping by to say so!

cheers,
Phil

Monty Python is just classic! My friends and I used to quote it at school all that time. That and Bad News from the Comic Strip Presents.

You're not the only one not to pick up signals during a drama class - I did drama GCSE and was supposed to be doing a scene with another guy including a kiss. We agreed not to go there only to have him lunge at me during the performance! I was too stunned to say anything - I hadn't realised that anyone would be interested in kissing me!

Isn't that the most horrible thing in the world? When you *do* finally get the message that they were interested, but probably aren't any more because you were so terrible at picking up signals? Good grief. :)

Glad you liked the piece! Thanks for coming by.

cheers,
Phil

LOL -- I do have to hand it to you being daring enough to do Monty Python in a drama class! I think anyone who would've tried the same in any of the drama classes I took would have been laughed off the stage, which is a shame, because they were the masters of comedic sketch humor (at least IMO).

I loved my improv classes. Can you imagine how the Argument Clinic would have gone down in an improv class? LOL!

I like watching improv stuff, but I don't think fast enough on my comedic feet to be able to do it myself. I need to have a script to work from or I'd get lost. I can WRITE fast, but I can't write humor fast.

I had a good time in the theatre class anyway.

Thanks for coming by!

Phil

Back in the day, I would have encouraged you to join the Penn State Monty Python Society. Many of my friends can quote whole sketches, too.

Did you have to attend Penn State to be a member? I went to the University of Georgia. :)

Glad you liked the piece! Thanks for stopping by.

There have been some honorary members from other locations, or at least there were back in my day. Can't speak for the current group, though, if it even still exists! For this story alone, you would definitely earn honorary membership.
