ASSEMBLE.

[last time I posted here, it was the Avengers trailer. Two months ago. Somehow this feels eerily appropriate now.]

The Avengers opened here a week ago, thanks to it being the 4-day Labor Day holiday [say that 3 times fast], so it turns out I've watched it 4 times already. The excuse was so I could watch it in 2D, regular 3D, IMAX 3D and stuff, but ( Read more... )

So much awesome! So many pretty people and witty lines and big action moments, and all of it was very, very Joss. The only bad thing is that it takes so long to make sequels, but I'm trusting in fandom to pick up the slack. I think I'd go for Natasha/anyone at this point, but especially Natasha/Clint, and I would happily bribe people for long plotty stories with lots of team bonding. Or just the team bonding; I'm easy.

The more I rewatched the movie, the more Natasha became my favorite character in it, and I. just. love. that. Sure, RDJ chews the entire scenery and more, and that's how I love him [and Tony too, he works better when he is larger than life], but ScarJo impressed me A LOT with how much she did sometimes only by moving her eyebrows, or glancing sideways...and an avalanche of emotions came out of those minimal gestures.

Team bonding is all I want from fic too, aside from the obvious Natasha/Clint, because I'm nothing but predictable in my 'shipping preferences. :) But right now I really really wish someone would write us the Budapest thing that they remember differently.

If you eventually find this Budapest fic that is sure to exist at some point, please let me know where it is!

ZOMG, everything you wrote, yes. As much as I avoided knowing anything about the movie beforehand, I knew expectations were high... and they were met AND THEN SOME. You're right, everyone got something out of the movie. And they actually managed to make it cathartic enough for the audience to be satisfied, yet it made everyone go away wanting MORE, be it just going back for a second viewing, or just plain more movies in this 'verse.

I saw a tweet earlier today that said something like Joss will now be able to get each and every obscure project he ever had developed... I'm pretty sure that is a fair assessment. :)

I wish we'd gotten to see more Clint being himself for the first 2/3 of the movie, but I'm sure there'll be plenty more of him in the upcoming ones. I'm not the biggest ScarJo fan (don't hate her, usually pretty meh about her), but I actually liked her in this. I LOVE what Mark Ruffalo did with Bruce, and I loved loved loved nerdy! bro-bonding between Bruce and Tony. I could easily watch a whole movie of just that.

Can I say how awesome Cobie Smulders was in this? Someone way back when had mentioned her as a possibility for the Wonder Woman series when they hadn't cast it yet, and I really couldn't see it at the time, but now I can. She was convincingly badass, and I hope we get to see more of her in future films too.

I rarely see movies in the theater anymore, and even more rarely see them more than once, but I'm planning to see this again.

Agreed, and from your lips to the StudioBosses' mainframe!

I have to say, I found her character a bit one-note, but if you're going to be one-note, really competent badass is a good note to be. I really liked that Maria held her own against Fury, and while I was SO BUMMED that Joss killed Agent Coulson (how did I not see that coming?), I was comforted to know that Nicky clearly has another "good eye" in the wings.

She also made that Trek-esque spandex uni look amazing. She'd make a great Diana.

RIGHT?! You know he's gonna do it, because he's JOSS, and he still catches me offguard EVERY time.

Don't disagree with you that Maria was one-note-ish, but it was a note I hadn't really see Cobie play before and I liked it.

I was comforted to know that Nicky clearly has another "good eye" in the wings.

Aww, that's a nice way to think about it.

Yeah, a little more Clint-as-himself before he got Lokizombified would've been awesome! And I'm like, one of the three people in the entire internets to actively LOVES ScarJo [ever since Ghost World, it was girlcrush at first sight], I was thrilled when she got the BW part back in IM2, and in this I just... Natasha sorta became my favorite thing about this movie the more I rewatched it.

But I did get a bit disappointed in Maria Hill. IDK, she is so extremely badass in the comics, that I was expecting MORE of it from her. Cobie is awesome, and I don't think she has ever looked more beautiful, but I feel like Hill ended up being the token characters that asks [stupid] questions when they needed some basic exposition to advance the plot. HOWEVER, I am now choosing to believe that this is just the setup for many many more Hill appearances in the upcoming movies, up to the point when she becomes Director of SHIELD and pwns all the other dudes something fierce.

"Hulk.....Smash."

"A god asked for it. [I thought it best to give it to him]"

"That's my secret - I'm mad all the time"

I may have to go and see it again also.....
