Well I was supposed to be getting an early night today and that hasn't worked. I was driving back to mine this evening from hanging out at George's and was inspired to write a piece about graduate jobs. I'm not really sure why. I haven't researched this really and it's far too long but I've decided it's a basis to build upon for me to create some ( Read more... )

So very true. I'm stuck temping, and barely even getting any of that; in fact, it's the most frustrating situation I've ever found myself in. I have no job, and the degree that I worked my arse off to get is less than worthless, since it's left me with a huge debt and no positive influence at all.

The worst bit, I have to say, is not that we end up in jobs we're overqualified for. I know that some employers have looked at my CV and said, "Well, she's completely overqualified. She'll be bored to tears and gone, or will want to go on to something else, and be gone." So they don't employ me. My dad, who does a huge number of interviews, admitted that he would have done the same, had I been put in front of him as a candidate for a receptionist position.

Good article, Hayley. I wish people understood just how frustrating and demoralising our position is.

i absolutely love your writing style. seriously good stuff.

do you know thesite.org? they publish articles etc on there and it may be worth enquiring if you can get some of your stuff up there so that then may be counted as "experience"? just an idea. xx
