am i the only person who's noticed this?
the term "used" (as in "used car" or "used CDs") is becoming replaced with the word "pre-owned" in the media. for example, i was watching a car commercial and they kept saying "pre-owned" where they normally said "used". also, when we were at gamestop i saw that the signs for the used games and DVDs now say ( Read more... )

I've been thinking about the pre-owned thing too! It's madness, I tell you, madness. Back in my day "used" was damn good enough. We were happy to get used!! Not all of this "pre-owned" nonsense.

That baby thing is just insane though. How I wish I had an answer for you!

Also, sweet icon.

Also, does your bong have a name? I love the naming of smoking devices!

#1 - Yeah, seems to be happening. I guess because "used" sounds, well... used. You think used and generally you think beat-up maybe-maybe-not working. Pre-owned sounds nicer, I guess. But yeah, it's mostly marketing.

#2 - Hm, come to think of it, it is a pretty silly idea - but the baby is probably supposed to represent young children period and not necessarily infants. Now, it's possible to imagine a 2 or 3 year old crawling in to hide and pulling the lid down and not being able to get out. As for the manufacturers, even if there's very little risk and it's blindingly obvious, they usually opt to slap a warning on anyway. Just in case the one "dumb" schmuck who thinks that they ordered a lukewarm coffee decides to sue. *shrug*

i don't see how a two year old could even fit in it...
and i do understand their reasoning, however, i think it's just funny how they added a measly sticker to protect them from feared law suits.

used sounds dirty, like a used condom..where if you say pre-owned condom it doesnt necisarily mean its been used...make sense?

and i guess companies have to stick stupid warnings on everything to save their butts just in case it does ever happen. like our peanut butter jars have labels on them "warning this product may contain nuts". its very stupid

pre-owned - belonged to some1...does not denote usage / used -just by the root, implies the "good" has been consumed/expended which precludes a product's higher value, many times even depreciating it, unless of course, we're talking antiques...where usage and integrity of merchandise go hand in hand.

i cracked up at that baby label thing. and of ALL places, the sticker goes on the inside??? LOL, too demented for further comments.
