Still here, who knows why

Five and a half months since my last post here and while I have considered posting something topical here from time to time I never got around to doing so - possibly due to the fact that by the time I find myself sitting here ready to roll I no longer have any idea what I was going to post about. This also happens when writing letters and so on. ( Read more... )

It may be that the tall grass took all the light last year, and the centidpede grass we have died from no sunlight. You may need to get some plugs of it and take back your yard by putting down new grass to take over again.

I finally ran the new lawnmower (starts on the first pull, I still can't get over that) around the back yard and the situation seems less dire than I had first thought - there's quite a fair amount of grass, though mostly concentrated in the north half of the yard. The south half (actually northwest and southeast) is mainly under the shade of three trees, a sweet gum or male mulberry(?) according to the tree trimming crew we had come by last month, and two red oaks. Mexican Petunias, OTOH, don't much give a monkey's and can, will and do grow everywhere.

That new mower! Unlike every other one I've used, it doesn't have a side exit for cut grass, but mulches it and leaves it in crumbly bits for me to walk on (it doesn't play nice with sticks, though). There is an exit in back for the bag, but I don't play that game - growing grass to cut it down and throw it away? No, thanks.
