I am so tired of this new push to make being a redneck a good thing. It is on TV, on country stations and singers. We need to clear this up, a redneck is not a good thing. A redneck is an uneducated, stupid, hate-filled racist. They make white-trash look good. I know what these people are trying to say, but they are good ol' boys or girls or ( Read more... )

Don't look at me. Ignorant is never a desirable quality in someone.

Unless we're using it in a sentence such as "Sam is ignorant of the fact that Carolyn has moved a Monkey into the house."

Then it's a good thing.

Well yeah, that is a very good thing. Another is "Chris is ignorant of the fact that Heather has adopted a puppy." (for the record Chris thought the Sam sentence was funny, but not the puppy one.)

That does seem to be a bit of a double standard on Chris's part. Let me run the puppy sentence by Sam.

Words take on power and even if the original definition was not negative once it becomes attached to negative it becomes that. An example is the word "cult" most people have an initial negative reaction, but "cult" actually means any religious group with members under 200,000. People can try and take a word back but it rarely works.
