recently i've had very insincere thoughts about joining the navy. the most important reason for these thoughts is that i already have one naval tattoo, plan on getting another, and feel mildly fraudulent. the second reason is that i want a story to tell the kids or grandkids (in the distant future). most importantly i want to justify the tattoos, ( Read more... )

I hope you don't make a life changing decision based on the desire to validate your tattoos. If you join the Navy, do it because of better reasons than that. After all, sometimes people really like the imagery of certain institutions, but aren't all that interested in being an actual part of that institution. For example, I've always been very attracted to the images and rituals or Catholicism. I'm an atheist, and have no desire or need to share in the Catholic faith. If I were to get a tattoo of a Saint, I don't think it would be necessary to justify the tattoo by converting to Catholicism.
So before you radically change your life by joining the Navy, think about it.

oh that's basically just one of those ridiculous little thoughts that creeps into my mind to pre-occupy myself at work. i'm going off to college (again) this fall anyway so i'm afraid it just wouldn't work out between myself and the navy.
