Music

I'm curious as to the role music plays in your writing. Are there any specific tunes you listen to when you write? Do you play things that help you get into the right feel for the scene you're writing? Do you assign your characters theme songs that you play when you're writing about them? Is music an inspiration for you? Something else? Or do ( Read more... )

question, music

MMM...I'm really not the one to be answering this question, as I haven't written in quite some time, but...

Usually I like to listen to music, yes. Just any music that opens up my mind for the thinking process, but isn't too distracting, that I start concentrating on that instead of my story.

No theme songs, though...maybe I should, that'd be fun. ^_^

Another thing I use is Minesweeper. (As odd as that sounds...) It gets me thinking and actually has brought me to many a scene for several stories. (And other times, I play for hours on end for nothing...)

Ha! I do the same thing!!! Such an addicting, game... I'm not sure how well it works for breakin Writer's Block, but it sur is fun! ;)

Yes, addicting for sure. It works on occasion...more when you're stuck on a certain scene than actual Writer's Block... (I haven't written in a long time, but I've been playing often, afterall...time for some drastic measures)

Sometimes I get story ideas from musical pieces. Otherwise...sometimes I listen to music when I write, sometimes I don't, and I don't often use it to get me into the mood, though it has happened a few times. Music isn't major with my writing, no.

Too many "sometimes." *shakes head*

There aren't any specific tunes I listen to for all my writing -- lately I've gotten into plotting the chapter out, then scrolling through my music library on WMP, and selecting some tunes to make a playlist for that chapter. ^^ Sometimes, when I don't have a set plotline, I'll just have the player on random, and go with the flow -- it goes from angst to fluff in mere seconds of reading. XD

I don't usually to character theme songs, though.

That's what I usually do. It's amazing how background music can affect your style!

Hehe. I don't usually, either. It's just something I did to a few recently when I happened to listen to a song and go: "Woah! It's like, them!"

No real specific tunes unless I'm inspired by a song or an instrumental part. If I'm writing angst, I pop in some sad stuff; action, I listen to Star Wars (John Williams is excellent!); general...nothing special. Whatever is on the playlist or whatever I'm into. Just having music there puts me in the mood to write (or distracts me). Sometimes, I play out entire scenes to my music when I head off to bed. =)

That's usually what I do, but I do find that it can influence my writing sometimes, so lately I've been trying to always play things that reflect the scene I'm trying to write. Heh, I do that, too!
