The end of an Era? (which might be good for once)

Apr 03, 2009 00:30

As many football fans have already heard Denver's Pro Bowl QB Jay Cutler has been traded to the Chicago Bears! This is already pretty big football news (Denver trading an all-star franchise quarterback?), but it's even bigger for any Bears fan.

Football cut so those who don't care can skip )

I agree about the receivers. But, if you look at their website you will notice they picked up a 7-time probowl free-agent tackle, which I believe brings them up to 3 o-linemen pickup so far (if I remember correctly from what I read the other day), and Chris Williams should be healthy this year.

Also, I should point out, most of our first round picks are shit. The bears just have a bad time with first rounders a lot of time (injuries, idiots cough*Grossman-Benson-Enis-Mcknown*cough).

I'm mostly hoping Hester got it in his head that loosing a step and bulking last off-season helped him zero, and he should work on his speed, stamina, and agility in the offseason. I doubt he figured that out though cuz he is stupid. I figure a second round receiver, or maybe one more decent receiver pick-up is a good way to go for them. Then it is all about the DBs and a linebacker to replace Urlacher when he quits.

Yeah I just saw the OT pickup which makes me feel a little better. At the same time, I don't wanna say it's a done deal until we see how things go. Williams in particular is nowhere near proven yet with his surgery and whatnot. Either way, I'm a bit more optimistic ( ... )

A couple of things, the Bears signed the aging but still quite good Orlando Pace to play Tackle today, so at least you're making some strides with that O-Line. Plus you still have Kruetz at Center who if I remember correctly is an absolute beast ( ... )

Yeah basically three of our five O-line folks *might* be good. I'm not sold on Chris Williams since he didn't even play much last year and had back surgery. I really wish we moved up last year and picked up Ryan Clady, but hindsight is 20-20 ( ... )

I suppose there's two trains of thought here. One, they have a franchise player at QB, the toughest position to fill and it's probably set for the next 5 to 8 years; giving the Bears time to focus on other positions. He's got great physical skills and more importantly he's young. Also, it will shut the fans up who have been demanding a quality QB ( ... )

One thing about the bears is they don't put up with BS. They canned Tank Johnson and Cedric Benson over them being generally stupid. So either Cutler will shape up his attitude and get with the program, or they will probably figure out a way to can him too.

But as for the sacks and talent around him it is a major concern of mine as well.

Jeff George...illini pride....represent... I think?

The only thing is, it's gonna be hard to can a guy on which you spent two 1st round picks. Johnson wasn't a 1st rounder. As for Benson, I don't follow the Bears really, so you would know better than I, but I thought he was canned for being inconsistent and having injuries.

The Jeff George thing isn't a diss per se. He was really good, but just never in the right situation and under-performed. If I really want to call Cutler a bust, I could have said the next Rick Mirer......

Oh that year with Grossman....I honestly never saw DA Bears win by pure luck so many times in a row. But can I dare to dream we might have a good QB? I go in with an open mind on this one.

I'm not into football, but . . . no one here likes Jay Cutler.
