hmmmmmm.....pure bred dogs are only worth the money if you plan to breed them, show them or use them as a status symbol. there are 1000s of dogs in the shelters. There are hundreds of dogs in the san jose shelters. one on martin ave and one on monterey road. adopting an older dog makes the transition easier. you dont have to train them. you dont have to replace the things they destroy. you don't have to clean up after they poop and pee everywhere. (remember the damn cat?) you can rename them! and you may even be able to find the exact type of dog you want. just keep going to the shelters and take a look around. i went into the shelter looking for my fluffy white mop dog that i wanted (for 10 years) to name Leonardo DiPuppio. Now I have a Leonardo AND a fluffy white mop dog. You may not find the exact breed you're looking for, but you will find the ones who screams "YOU'RE THE ONE!" when he looks at you. just go in with a cold heart. the right one will speak to you.....and he wont die because you took him home. i get what you're saying and i've certainly had my share of mutts. however, after having had 2 purebreds and raised them from puppies, well, it's a different experience. i find the bond to be much stronger. as for messes, i had both my chows house trained within 2 weeks, with few accidents during. same with any type of destruction, it just took some good discipline and that was kept to a bare minimum.
and anyway, if i can't have the man that i want, at least i will have the dog that i want. ;)
