With Classic Who though it'd be helpful if there were locked links posts or something...

A lot of Classic Who went down with Megaupload (R.I.P). But there's a lot on Netflix and I might be able to scrounge up some links to put in locked posts, depending on the specific serial because some are more popular than others.

I know...:( And yeah, I suppose there is Netflix, though they really fluctuate in what they have streaming....

Would we want to do live chats for some of the episodes?

Live chats are fun, but they could be difficult to orchestrate with time zones and all, but if there's a big demand for a live chat for a specific episode, we'll see what we can do.

I will say that if you do decide to do Classic Who, live chats make it 100% more fun and hilarious. I'm a member of a comm that used to do that, and I found that while I always had fun watching them in a group, at least some of the serials were kinda boring without fellow comm members snarking/sharing thoughts during it.

(New Who would also be fun to live chat, but there's a lot less snark potential)

Seconded on the live chats. I had the misfortune of watching Meglos alone and I had to actually call a Whovian friend of mine to go WHAT? WHAT? at her.

LOL, I have a great mental picture of that now. :D

I just looked at the Wiki for that episode and random phrases include "ramshackle space pirates", "the last Zolfa-Thuran", and "a bemused man watching a cactus creature reassert himself in his laboratory". I can't imagine what would be at all odd about that. ;)

For Classic Who... I could be of help, because I kind of sort of have the entire run of Who hanging out on an external. *ahem* >_>

Hahah that could DEFINITELY be of help. We're just about to make a post to help decide what serials we'll be watching, and then from there the question of availability will probably come up.

I'm interested in the live chat option, less interested in the rewatch-and-discuss part. For me, the fun of a rewatch is mostly in the live chat (and that goes for New Who as well as Classic).

If you're interested in exploring it more, you might want to take a look at this DS9 rewatch comm: ds9-rewatch. They do multiple live chats for a given episode that work for different time zones, and then one group discussion post. I'll vouch that the system works out really well.

Livechats are definitely very fun. Just looking at that comm, do you know more details on how it works? Is there just a chatroom open all the time and then sort of various suggested watch times so people can show up at the chat at that time if they're interested?

That's pretty much it. The chatroom is open all the time, and there are four designated rewatch times that are given in both U.S. Eastern Time and British Time (most people seem to be able to figure out their local time from there). Usually there is also a reminder posted to the comm shortly before a rewatch is about to begin ( ... )

The person who set up the chatroom is on my flist; if you like, I can ask her for the details on how she did it. I find the chatroom very easy to use -- and that hasn't always been the case with other chats I've tried to enter.

That'd be great, actually! I don't really have any experience setting up a chatroom permanently and I wouldn't know what kind of client to use.
