1. I find the dynamic between the Doctor and Rose, which was pitch-perfect in series 1, is really off-kilter in series 2, and this is one of the first episodes for it. The theme of Doctor Who, especially in the 2005 revival series, is that idea of "do you wanna come with me?", an invite to a mad exciting adventure in time and space. You should want to go and travel with these people, it looks that fun, and the series got this just right with Eccleston and Piper. With Tennant's introduction, they become two characters that are so wrapped up in themselves that they irritate and push away. This is deliberate in order to set up the finale, and it is indeed addressed in this episode with the queen's reaction to their ill-timed "werewolf" celebration, but it still makes the series a lot less fun to watch when the characters are so smug and into themselves. It's not the flirtation that's obnoxious, it's their whole superior attitude that grates and grates HARD

Haha! What an appropriate username for this episode!
I wouldn’t say I have a major problem with Series 2, since some of them are my favourite episodes, I really like this one, School Reunion, the Satan Pit two-parter. The Girl In The Fireplace is everything Doctor Who can and should be! <3 I even have love for Fear Her which I know is a bit hated by fandom :o

Although this is technically the third episode with Ten and Rose together, it's the firs where neither of them spend a significant portion of time unconscious. So: what did you think of the way they behaved in this episode? Cute first date, or obnoxiously flirty? Cute first date! I mean I do think things like making the bet about "we are not amused" were a bit much at times. But generally it was just kind of fun to watch them have fun. Rose and the Doctor are just running around the universe having fun. They were on their way to a concert and the met Queen Victoria!!! And then there were werewolves!
Werewolves and monks and Queen Victoria, oh my! Did you like the plot of this episode? Queen Victoria is also the second historical figure we've now seen in New Who. Did you think she was portrayed respectfully? Do you like episodes with historical figures?Idrc about episodes with historical figures tbh. Some are better than others. Like this episode is ok. I think this was a script that RTD had to do at the last minute and it really

Definitely in the cute first date camp. Their being overly wrapped up in each other sets up the coming separation quite well. However, I found it adorable to watch.

I love most historical figure episodes - it's awesome how they exploit and interpret unexplained mysteries. I thought Queen Victoria was done very well; the actress was very good. I find the episode appropriately spooky as well. The werewolf in human form is chilling, as were the references to Bad Wolf

1. This was pretty much the first episode of Doctor Who I ever saw, and it still has a special place in my heart. I could never figure out, though, why people said the dynamic between them was off, and I think it was at least partly because it was my first exposure to the pair of them. I thought it was hysterical how they kept fangirl/boying over everything, even inappropriately at serious moments

"Annoying" and "exclusive" are never the words that come to mind when I see Ten and Rose, in this episode or any other. "Fun", "cute", "joyful", and "entertaining" are. I agree with the person who said they feel drawn into Ten and Rose's world, like they're sharing the adventure, not shut out of it. (I think that may be part of the problem I have with Eleven, Amy, and Rory: I don't feel drawn in with them at all
