hello again. i am back. i am rested (sort of) and ready for proper thoughts (sort of). here they are, in approximately chronological order.
- i love the way the first scene is stage. all the master's giggling and awkwardness and... nice kissing, rather than desperate flailing kissing. they never nice kissed before and it makes my heart clench a bit because it's so lovely and still in character. - the chess is back! this is great because the chess was great the first time, but also great because what felt like a scene of pure fun actually turns out to be a major plot point. i know you know this, but whatever. i was impressed and delighted, and never more delighted than at this: The Master beams. "Oh, if you win you get your planet back." if you remember the noise the doctor made in journey's end when rose tells him she's been trying to get back to him - that's the noise i made here (not on purpose, but i have unconsciously adopted mannerisms from who before so-) and then over and over again during the course of the rest of this
( ... )
I have ten million kinds of love for this. THE GAME. ASKING THE MASTER ALONG. RUNNING AWAY.
Favourite bit: He's asking the Master to talk him out of it. He's actually asking the Master. And the Master knows he's won, finally, unequivocally, because the Doctor crying as he died was only the first point. If he brings Gallifrey back, then every moment of the Doctor's guilt and horror and loneliness, every single painful thing the Time War left him with, will belong to the Master. And all the Doctor's joy and relief will belong to him too. He'll be the Master's, finally, properly.
All of Gallifrey knowing that the Doctor and the Master together saved them will be pretty priceless, too.
