I took the head and block to a workshop, TJ Heads. The guy there, Ted, said someone (probably the previous owner I bought it from) has let the engine overheat a huge amount, and its basicly irrepairable ( Read more... )

I bought a harmonic balancer (pulley puller), and consequently, the pulley is now off! Soon after, the cambelt pulley came off, and the crankshaft. Lovely.

Then, I got started cleaning the block. Took a few pics finally too.

After some trouble finding the right bolts to hold it on, the block is now on the stand, sump is off, about to rip out the pistons and start the big clean up.

Looking for a 16v gasket set. If someone can get me one for trademe prices (~$130), thatd be great. Also need piston rings and bearings, cambelt.. This stuff gets expensive!

Josh and Craig headed round to help with the disassembly. We managed to get the intake manifold and head off, before we became too intoxicated. Everythings in good, if a little dirty, condition.

Back in business!

Bought a new 4age from trademe, I have a workmate to help me now, and generally have the will to go on. This car WILL live again!

Pics to come - the 4age is a 7-rib block, bigport head. Saw and heard it running before I bought it, its a sound engine, if a little smokey.. but replacing all seals/gaskets/rings anyway.

My rolla just failed its latest WOF. Too much structural rust around the windscreen, under the front left panel, and a hole in the exhaust apparently. Until this is fixed, the project is on hold.. however, i fear this may be the call of death for my little car..

I hope i can save it. Stay tuned.

Long time since Ive updated this, basically because I'm poor and have had no time. Should have much more now, and might actually get some shit done on this beast.

Right, well I managed to get myself a set of valves and springs, so i can finally get around to reconditioning the head.
