LOL like anyone is reading this but I still want to get my thoughts on Season 8 down. So my little rewatch continues,
Top 5 Performance, "Rat Pack" Night I hate the older music nights normally. I recall when this first aired, aside from
Kris looking tasty and Allison's performance, I was pretty bored, and then overly outraged about the over the top set-up for Adam.
Upon reviewing, I still feel pretty much the same. I did notice that in the recap, they made sure to show Kris' one bad note. Other than that, it's as I remember it. Kris is Jamie Foxx's #1. Matt is horrific. Adam is over the top (and his praise similar). Gokey is Gokey and his praise is over the top too. And Allison's
performance of Someone to Watch Over Me is still the best one by far, and gets rewarded by Simon's crap.
I ranted more about this episode
in this entry.
Top 5 Results: Unlike every Idol fan, I usually prefer Idol results night and this one is not too bad. For one,
they pull the old "you decide which of these two groups of two you belong in" deal on Adam, and he picks the wrong group of Alison and Danny. No way, bud, to the bottom 3 you go with Kris and Matt. Even better, Kris is sent to safety first. I remember screaming in relief at that during my first viewing. Now I see it for the obvious attempt to goose Adam voters and lull Kris voters it was. Either way, obviously Matt's time to go and we say
goodbye to Matt (and Kratt).
Top 4 Performance aka Rock Week: Ah rock week. Kris stans know this week affectionately as the week we got
Ragey Kris. Mainly because the attempt to bus him was in full swing, first by forcing him to duet with Gokey and then giving him overly harsh comments on Come Together. Thanks to that, Kris fans now get Come Together closing every live show. A beautiful eff-you, me thinks:

Obviously, the night belongs to Adam - who is great on Whole Lotta Love and dueting with Allison on Slow Ride. Allison does a great job on Cry Baby. I recall that when I saw the Season 8 live tour, Adam was just fricking amazing on Whole Lotta Love, so I'll link you to a video of that performance.

So congratulations to whatever Gokey stans out there might one day stumble on this journal. You got your guy past all that even though he was more horrific than Seasons 9, 6 and 3 combined on this particular week. Dream On, anybody? And side note, I am so, so, so sad that the guy who put the brilliant Danny is the beast vanquished by Kradam video set to a Tenacious D song called Tribute decided to take that video down. If you know which one I mean and you know where it is hiding online, please let me know!
Top 4 Results. Except for the very end, this might be one of the best episodes of Season 8. Why, you ask. Well first,
Allison hits Danny on purpose in the group number (at 1:05). Then we sit through some insanity from No Doubt and they bring out the contestants to save my bb first! I was so excited. All that dialing the night before had paid off. Plus we get an epic Kradam hug, his stupid faaaaaaaace and our first view of Cale.
Relive that fine moment of television now. Then even better, the rest have to go backstage while
Kris gets to hand Daughtry a plaque. And we know what Kris meeting Daughtry led to:

But then the night takes a sour turn. Yes, the Kris stans voted hard. But so did the Gokey stans. Unfortunately, Allison's stans seem to be people who stan Kris and Adam just a bit more and that was a night we just couldn't take time off to vote for her. Allison's time to go was up and she gave the most touching goodbye of the season.

Kradam was so sad to see her go and you know that
Kradison must have just cursed Danny to all hell and damnation in that moment. I know I did. Even rewatching the other night, the kid of mine who does not like Kris was all outraged and mortified that Danny did not go Rock Week. Just based on performance alone (never mind, consistency of performance all season), this should have been Gokey's week to go. I remember changing my facebook status at some point during these two weeks to Put the Go in Gokey and leaving it that way until he was gone.
But now, just to add insult to injury, Gokey's a country music singer now. Or pretends to be. I know I turn on my CMT a lot, as I am a country music fan, and there's nothing more jarring than enjoying your Keith or Kenny or Brad or whathaveyou and then Gokey's mug appears. UGH. Luckily his sales are not all that, but inexplicably, Sugarland, who normally have awesome taste in music, decided he'd make a nice opening act. Ugh.
Enough anti-Gokey ranting for this update. Top 3 next, when I get to it! Knowing what's coming up, I need to find a time I can truly appreciate!
