This afternoon Natalia came downstairs to tell me there was a bird upstairs. What seems to have happened is that her cat brought the bird in last night at some point and spent a good time torturing the poor bird in various rooms throughout the house before assuming it was dead and abandoning it upstairs. the bird was a very young bird so I guess it ( Read more... )

yep. but all will be well and reincarnated :) it's called positive thinking.

An advert for Ozzie RSPCA adopt a dog, tonight on the tele brought tears to my ears. yep they have worked hard to get a sympathetic response for their campaign. good on them, i must be in the target market. but it's also cos I've been getting to know many more dogs recently, so have a new appreciation. but they are also a commitment i wouldn't want myself.

Also one of the cats here is just awesome and wonderful and mature like an old soul, serene. reminds me of the cat that came with my house, similar colouring too!

If it makes you feel any better, the cat was unlikely to be doing it just for fun. Cats learn to kill prey when their mothers bring live specimens back for them, if a kitten grew up in a situation where their mother didn't do that, they simply don't know what to do with prey when they catch it. Or they are trying to teach you.

Teaching us? That would make sense if she actually showed us but she usually does it in private when we're asleep and makes no effort to show us anything. The learning from the mother thing is interesting, I'll have to check up on that. Food for thought on both counts though.
