I wouldn't consider the first or the last pics to be looters. However, you have to rethink the guy carrying all that beer. Beer isn't really essential to survival though. The others are probably carrying food and water (though nor is soda).

hey kelson, i never really comment on your lj. but i have a question. why do you talk about problems out of your control all the time? cant you say something nice that happened in your day or atleast tell us something interesting thats happened in your day? Im sorry if im being alittle direct, but talking about things within our government, to people like us is getting you nowhere or getting anything done! Once again im sorry for saying this, but im an asshole.

I know I said I wouldn't comment on who I was, but that's downright insulting. His LiveJournal name is acetate_prophet anyways, and as far as I know, he's never used it. Secondly, it's not my goal to comment on things we can "control", as you put it. I'm just trying to expose people to a different viewpoint and make them think for a minute or two about important things. If you want to be all caught up in "something interesting" happening in whoever's day, that's great, but also kind of narrow. Places like this could be forums for great discussion, but I just see a good deal of rather inane posts. Should those stop? No, but maybe it isn't all bad to have someone who's at least pretending to write about something serious.

if you are looking to get anywhere with your discussions and your viewpoint, you need to be more open minded. That is the only way you will get anyone to believe anything you are saying. bashing whats wrong about our government, to people who strongly support our government is just getting you no where. Im not conservative, im actually very liberal, but my point is i hate seeing someone try to get through to people this way, because i tried to do it in the past and all i did was waste my time, you have to find a new method of getting through to people. I suggest by finding something you and your audience can agree with your subject, maybe then people will start understanding your viewpoint.

I found this is reply to at least the image of the white people.

These images are not shown to prove the Katrina issue is one of race - it isn't. There are many spokespeople claiming that it is and refer to the news snippets posted here and elsewhere.

The AFP (l'Agence France-Presse) photographer for the "finding" photograph, Chris Graythen, has replied on Sports Shooter Photography to explain why the photo of white people were singled out to be the only "finders" rather than "looters":

... The people were swimming in chest deep water, and there were other people in the water, both white and black. I looked for the best picture. [Emphasis added. -ed.] there were a million items floating in the water - we were right near a grocery store that had 5+ feet of water in it. it had no doors. the water was moving, and the stuff was floating away. These people were not ducking into a store and busting down windows to get electronics. They picked up bread and cokes that were floating in the water. They would have floated away anyhow. ...
