Over the weekend I made a post listing the meals that make up the bulk of the dinners in our home, and asking y'all to do the same, either in the comments to that entry, or in yr own journals. I'd love a large database of foods to inspire one another ( Read more... )

Ask again in a few weeks when I'm done with the first trimester and don't eat pb&j for every meal ;).

Yeah, all this post did was make me feel like a domestic failure for NOT planning out a full week's meal in advance. Like I know I SHOULD be doing.

THANKS A LOT

Ha. Well, if it makes you feel any better, despite my writing this stuff down, I don't think I've ever gone an entire week of Sticking To The Plan. I do try to brainstorm some general ideas before grocery shopping, otherwise I am scattered/crazy/craving-driven in the store (srsly, I will be like "oooooh, ice cream and white cheddar popcorn and strawberries and three types of fresh bread hooray!" and then the next day be like "well now what the fuck am I making for dinner?"), but even with my plans, I pretty much always have at least one (and sometimes, if it's a bad week, like up to three or four) days when it's almost dinner time and I can't muster the will to cook and so I just make grilled cheese or plain pasta or tell M to pick up a pizza on his way home. I mean, yeah, sometimes planning does work and I make good things, but I would say a significant part of my perceived Domestic Success (gah, esp lately) is an illusion.

Like tonight, for example, when the heat/shitty a/c combo + picking up dog vomit left me feeling queasy and vaguely suicidal, plans for jollof rice turned into hey, we're having frozen pizza.
