I went and saw Mum today - she's so good I'm worried about her. That sounds silly, doesn't it? But it's true. Last time she was remotely close to being this well she crashed overnight and it too her months to get functioning again. And that was just after Dad's birthday - their wedding anniversary is coming up, and if she remembers the date this ( Read more... )

I'm starting to think the Dog is actually the centre of the universe.

It wouldn't surprise me.

Does that mean we're constellations or stars or planets or something clever and astronomical?

If it does, I want to be Uranus.

I'm glad to hear your mother is doing well, Ernie.

And if even I have been in the Dog, then it must certainly be well-known!

Thank you, Nott.

The Dog mightn't be the most upperclass place in the world, but it's certainly known.

How are the children going? Do you need to come by the Dog for another glass or eight of whiskey?

The children torment me as before. though not literally- I think they're somewhat afraid of me now.

I shall certainly swing by this evening, well, I think I shall. I have a head cold coming and I think whiskey might be just the trick to blast it out of my system. Shall I see you behind the bar as per usual?

So does this mean that you aren't going to stand me up?

That reminds me - shall I pop some paintings into the Dog, or bring them around to yours? There's a few more for your mother, including a strange little sculpture made of sequins, beading and gold threads. I'm not sure what it actually is, but it's rather pretty and tactile.

Please give her my best wishes?

Neither is really ideal, but if you dropped them by the Dog, say Monday night? It's always quiet then.

You should come and see her some time. She loves visitors.

I will do, it'll be nice having a quiet drink; is it always so crowded in the Dog?

Could I? That would be very lovely indeed.

Weekend and towards the end of the week it is, but Monday nights we're lucky to get five people in. I'm not entirely sure why Tubby opens the doors, really.

Sure you can. Did you want to come next time I go, so I can introduce you to the nurses there so they know who you are?

So good to hear your mum's doing well.

For what it's worth, I've not been to the dog.

Thank you, Hermione.

You should come to the Dog at least once. It's an experience.

I don't think I've ever been to the Dog either, and two of my dormmates are working there. Next thing I know, The Man'll take away my black and yellow flag.

You can always go to Zach's pub and be a Hufflysparkles instead.

Your mother is one of the sharpest women I've ever known, and I'm sure some day she'll be again in a full-time manner, not just to young (and possibly fit?) waiters.

And I should be offended at that remark about the lack of logic in the women you've met; I think I'm going to savour it, though. Being a former Ravenclaw, I welcome the change in remarks.

I hope so, so much, Padma. Even now it's hard to see her struggling with things she'd have been able to do with ease before the accident. But hey, if she keeps on improving like this I might even be able to move her out of the home and into a place of her own. I know I shouldn't look too far ahead just yet, though.

It was off-the-cuff momentary frustration, and you've always Apart from once you've I'm glad you're not offended.
