The doctor (yes, I eventually dragged myself to see one, without any prodding from anyone. Be proud of me, dammit, I'm feeling poorly!) says it's one of those short-run viruses and that I pretty much just have to "tough it out", his words. So hello fever and headaches and aching all over

Whenever I was an ill youngster my Dad would make me drink tea with anise, lemon, honey, and whiskey, which was to be followed by a strong dose of pepper-up. Works quite well provided you don't sick up the whole concoction down the front of your dressing gown!

Ernie, I'm an artist, my entire flat is covered in paint. Your place will probably be less painty, which is a good thing.

This is a pretty rough spot I live in. The block is a dump and my neighbours are junkies or couples always getting the Met called on them for domestic disturbance. Homeless people use the stairwell as a toilet. My flat is fine, it's just everything else that's a problem.

Mind, I think that makes it sound worse than it probably is.
