Here, we have NPR's list of the 100 best scifi/fantasy novels, as of August 2011. I say if you've read any of a seies (because they're counting a series as a single book, are they bonkers???), it counts. This means you, Dune. Seriously.

1. The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, by J.R.R. Tolkien

Wait, the Drizz't books - a series based on a freakin' roleplaying game - make the list, but there's no Lathe of Heaven? And since they're obviously not discriminating against comics, where's Matt Wagner's Mage? Or what about Earthsea? Or the Gormenghast series?

Lathe of Heaven and Earthsea both dissolved into unreadable acid trips at the end of the books, after starting out incredibly.

Let the flame war begin. ;)

No need to flame. Just mild bafflement. Lathe of Heaven is one of the greatest fantasy/sci-fi novels ever written, and Earthsea ain't too shabby either.

Very, very surprised you've never read Cat's Cradle, M'Ris. Seems right up your alley.
